I won a small fantasy basketball league this past year. It was $20 to play and I ended up with $150. That's 1500% annualized! :-)

I work with a bunch of football nuts, so we have a HUGE fantasy football thing we do here (It's too rich for my blood $200 or $100 depending on which league you are in, winner gets thousands. It is crazy.

I can't play Fantasy Football because I only know players if they are Steelers.

I have been in fantasy sports leagues since 1988. I remember my first pick, at the 7th spot in basketball was Magic Johnson.

In many of the leagues, we have had the same core group of about 6 guys. We get together for a draft at my auction. We have it in my main conference room, with a big screen. We drink beer, eat pizza, criticize every guy's pick, and tell the same jokes and stories that we told at the last draft.

The winner gets around $650. Given prep time for the draft, that can often come out to $2 an hour.

It also makes watching sports more entertaining.. Sometimes you switch on a game and find yourself watching it just because you have Gordon Giricek on your team.

I know it sounds dopey, but it can be fun. I heard about some people who fly all over the country each year to talk about mutual funds. To each their own...
